Unless social media is a measurable, material revenue driver for your business, the labor cost of creating social content manually is not a meaningful EBITDA lever. "We're implementing AI-powered analytics." If your current analytics process is not a documented bottleneck with a measurable cost, adding AI to it adds complexity without leverage. Analytics improvements produce EBITDA only when they lead to better decisions. If the current analytics aren't leading to better decisions, AI-powered analytics won't either.
The Evaluation Framework
Before any AI initiative is approved, it should be required to answer six questions with specifics - not generalities:
- What specific workflow does this change? Name the workflow. Map its current steps. Identify where in the process the AI operates.
- What is the current cost of that workflow - in hours per week, dollar cost per unit of output, or error rate?
- What is the projected cost after AI integration? Based on what evidence or comparable implementation?
- What is the annual EBITDA impact of the difference between current cost and projected cost?
- What is the implementation cost and timeline? Include internal time, not just vendor fees.
- What is the payback period? Total implementation cost divided by annual EBITDA improvement.
If an initiative can't answer all six questions with specifics, it isn't ready to move forward. The process of answering them often surfaces that the initiative is solving the wrong problem - or that the right solution isn't AI at all.
The Sequencing Problem
AI amplifies the workflow it is built on top of. If the workflow is efficient, AI makes it more efficient. If the workflow is broken - with unnecessary steps, unclear ownership, poor data quality, or misaligned incentives - AI makes the broken parts faster and more consistent. You get a better-functioning broken process.

The pattern in failed implementations: "We're going to use AI across the organization to improve productivity." Vague scope. Vague tool selection. Vague adoption. No measurement framework. Unknown outcome. Six months later, nobody is sure what happened - which is itself the answer.
